PP-RCT Piping Systems - Electrofusion Welding
NIRON electrofusion fittings are designed with a molded-in-place resistance wire, enabling connection to welding machines through connecting wire leads. By applying voltage and circulating electrical energy, resistance generates the heat required to melt the PP-RCT material. This process allows for direct transmission of energy to the fitting and pipe contact surface, resulting in a strong, safe, and reliable joint upon cooling.
To ensure accurate welding, scan the welding barcode using a barcode scanner or manually enter the welding parameters, including time and voltage. Automatic or manual welding can be performed using NIRON welding units, but verify parameters on the display after scanning the barcode. It is crucial to maintain a safe distance during the welding process.
Follow these steps for a reliable weld:
- Cut the pipes at right angles using a pipe cutter.
- Uniformly scrape the pipe and fitting spigot surface with an appropriate pipe scraper, removing the oxidized polypropylene layer beyond ⅜" (1 cm) of the fitting's insertion length.
- Clean the pipe, spigot ends, and welding area using isopropanol and a soft, clean cotton cloth. Ensure the parts are completely dry before proceeding.
- Measure the insertion length of the pipe and insert it into the fitting up to the marked depth, using aligners if necessary.
- Avoid mechanical stress on the welding area during both the welding procedure and cooling time.
- Refer to the welding machine's user manual for proper usage.
After welding, disconnect the cables and allow the joint to cool for the indicated time on the barcode. Mark the weld number on the coupling or fitting using the last three digits of the machine serial number. You can download welding data using a USB pen drive or print it instantly through a printer. For pressure testing, remove any aligners and use a pressure test unit.
Always double-check the welding parameters before starting the welding procedure. Prepare the pipe and fitting according to the instructions provided. Ensure proper alignment without movement and connect the welding cables to the fitting connectors before scanning the barcode or manually entering welding parameters.
